In-Home Maternity - My new favourite thing

I have been shooting in-home maternity sessions for a while now and I always enjoy working with expectant mamas and families. However recently,  I have found a whole new level of love for this type of session. Before writing this post, I tried to unpick exactly what it is about pregnancy photography that makes it so special, and it turns out it's not just one thing, but three.

1) Mum-to-be

Nine months, well actually nearly ten (they forget to mention that bit) of carrying and growing awesome little lives, honestly it's remarkable when we come to think of it. For each and every one of us, those 9 months of pregnancy are their own journey of ups and downs. Yet, one thing is for certain, it's hard work, and man, mums do a great job! It is this, that encompasses a lot of my purpose in shooting maternity images. Showing the strength and beauty of pregnant women, the amazing glow in a mum, who is just weeks away from meeting that baby. Capturing the amazing way her body has changed to grow and protect her little bundle. As the third-trimester rolls to the finish, I know it can be hard to feel that 'glow', but in the hands of the right photographer your beauty, confidence, and all-around awesomeness will shine through, captured and remembered always,

2) The love in the waiting for baby

Now, I guess that subtitle is a little hard to comprehend, but it's there in every maternity session. The love may be coupled with excitement, anxiety, and nerves - but always love. The way a partner looks at that bump and the incredible woman carrying it. Their hand, as they reach to feel the wriggle and roll of an elbow, knee or foot. That smile as they help you to do something, you didn't need help with a few months ago. Yet, it's not just between partners, but also in the little eyes of siblings, waiting eagerly to become that big brother or sister. I am always taken by the power of the love in the waiting and how it shines so brightly through in a session.

3) The Pregnancy details and that bump

Oh bumps! There is something so incredibly awesome about a baby bump. Although a maternity photography session is about so much more, it's nice to take some time to focus on the details of that gorgeous bump. Yet rarely do I get just the bump, but in fact something so much more. Hands. Mum's hands, dad's hands, little sibling hands - they are all drawn to the little bundle waiting. Whether it's dad waiting for that reassuring kick or mum tickling a little pushy foot, these are the details that form your days waiting for your little one to arrive, these are the details that should be captured forever. Details that bring you back to that moment.

So I've listed three reasons why I love maternity photography, but really, the list is endless! And, with each new mum-to-be, I am even more humbled to have to opportunity to capture their special journey.

The sweetest big sister to be and a blooming mama| A maternity session in Reading, Berkshire

So first off guys, I so sorry that I have been totally useless with blog entries of late- you know, life and all that! However, I'm back and there's no better way to start, than with this beautiful blooming mama.

Returning clients are some of my favourite to work with, especially when the newborn I captured but a few year ago is now far from newborn and waiting eagerly to become a big sister. I met Little Lady L and her mama, Amy, at their home in Reading to capture some of the excitement of maternity leave.

Excitement certainly was the theme of this maternity session. Honestly, it's crazy how soon a sibling becomes a sibling! With little sister still tucked up in the bump, older sister could not control her love for all things bump. This together with the sweet moment with mum, made this session, one of my all-time favourites.

Thank you again, C family for letting me share this special time with you.

Sweet baby girl ~ loved by three generations {Reading Newborn Photographer}

On a sunny morning in December, I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet baby girl and her family of 3 generations. Joanie and Chris invited me into their beautiful home in Reading, for their newborn photography session. Their house was filled with gorgeous morning sunlight, just perfect for an indoor lifestyle shoot.

Upon arriving, I was greeted by both parents and their mothers - two wonderful grandmothers, both completely smitten by the dear baby M. After a feed with mum, we took advantage of little M's milk calm to capture some sweet, bright eyed, individual moments in her cot. She was then joined by mum and dad, who cooed back at her from her cot side. It's moments like this that remind me why I love in home sessions - watching 2 parents lost in their new precious bundle. Perfect! Feeling a little lonely in her crib, Baby M was scooped up into her daddy's arms, straight into her favourite position and instantly at ease. Dangling over her father's arm, I was able to capture her adorable red hair in the light from the window - isn't it just so lovely?

At ease in Chris' arms, we caught some darling moments of the family as a 3 - mummy, daddy and their baby girl. Both parents were so beautifully at ease and completely entranced by the little lady, so I snapped away, catching dad smiling at both his girls - Gah!! Insanely sweet. The precious family moments continued when little M was scooped up into the arms of her grandmothers. Each held her and calmed her in their own way, each had their own little bit of grandma magic - a true honour to capture. This family really was just so lovely to shoot. Congratulations P family! Here are some of the favourites from out time together.

Sweet baby girl ~ darling little sister {Reading Newborn Photographer}

I completely fell in love with this sweet, little girl and her darling sister. Last month, I got to meet the T family for a special newborn session at their home in Purley on Thames. It was wonderful to work with this adorable family again - I had a great time meeting the parents and big sister for their family session 2 years ago. Now, with a new addition to their family, they really are just too perfect.

We started our session in baby S' nursery, cute sleepy moments and snuggles from mummy and daddy. I love the shot of big sister, photo bombing the moment! Then it was time for some adorable family cuddles and laughter with both girls.  After a feed, for the little lady, it was time for me to capture some individual newborn photos. Baby S was a dreamy, sleepy girl. she slept the entire time – not a single peep! And I even caught a smile from her too.🙂 It was an morning full of joy . Congrats T family!! Here are several favourites from our time together – Enjoy!

Welcome baby boy - adorable family of 3+pup {Berkshire Newborn Photography}

I was so super excited to welcome this adorable baby boy - a perfect family of 3 (well four including pup!) His parents and I previously worked together and it was great to see them all again.

This awesome family were so at ease when I met them at their family home for their newborn session. At two weeks old, little one was such a sweet, happy boy. After taking a big feed, this cheeky monkey decided it was party time rather than sleep time, so with smiles for mummy we captured some perfect cuddly moments with mum, dad and of course the beloved first baby, pup Matilda.

These new parents are doing an amazing job with their new bundle of joy! I’m so honoured I could capture this once in a lifetime milestone for them🙂. Congrats J family!! Here are several favourites from our time together – Enjoy!
