The Ultimate Newborn Photography Session Checklist for Parents

From the soft, irresistible curls to the tiniest fingers reaching out, we understand that these fleeting moments are the building blocks of memories that last a lifetime. My Ultimate Newborn Photography Session Checklist is your compass through this enchanting journey, ensuring that no precious moment slips through the lens.

Fresh Nappies and Wipes: Keep a supply of fresh nappies and wipes handy. A well-fed and dry baby is more likely to be cosy, content and cooperative during the session.

Feeding Essentials: Ensure you have all the necessary feeding supplies, such as breast pads, nipple cream, a comfortable nursing pillow, pre-measured formula and bottles.

Cosy Blankets and Swaddles: Create a pile of your favourite blankets or swaddles for the baby. These items not only provide comfort but can also add a personal touch to the photos.

Baby's Comfort Items: Have to hand any item

s that typically soothe your baby, whether it’s a dummy, a soft toy, or a special blanket. Familiar items can help keep the baby calm during the shoot.

Snacks and Refreshments: Keep some snacks and water on hand for both you and your partner. Newborn sessions can take a few hours, and readily available nourishment ensures you stay energised and focused.

Sibling Entertainment: If you have older siblings, plan a few toys to have out or a book and activities to keep them entertained during the session (stickers are always my go-to). This helps ensure a relaxed atmosphere and allows the photographer to capture genuine interactions.

Time Cushion: Having a time buffer reduces stress and allows for any unexpected delays (babies aren’t always too happy staying on schedule).

Family Keepsakes or Props: Consider any sentimental item or family heirloom you may want to be included in some shots. It could be a special blanket, a pair of booties, or a cherished stuffed animal, adding depth and meaning to the images.

Adorable Outfits:  consider having multiple outfits for the baby to wear during the session. This means you are ready should there be any spit-up or nappy incidents.

Open Mind and Flexibility: Lastly, bring an open mind and a flexible attitude. Newborns can be unpredictable, and the best shots often come from spontaneous moments. Embrace the experience, enjoy the process, and trust the photographer to capture beautiful memories.
